Monti @ Fullerton Pavilion – The Perfect Sunday Weekend Buffet Brunch

If you are looking the perfect luxury Sunday weekend buffet brunch, this is it.

Located at Fullerton Pavilion, Monti is one of Marina Bay’s latest dining and lifestyle destination, offering modern Italian food, evening live band with jazz-inspired cocktails and stunning view to match. What’s even better now is that Monti has introduced their new brunch by the bay concept every Sunday with superb Italian breakfast menu.

Egg Salmon Florentine - Monti

Egg Salmon Florentine – Monti

Though it is a buffet, it is served in ala-crate style. You would have to order it and they will prepare for you immediately. Which, I find it better as the quality of the food won’t be compromised.

Egg Salmon Florentine was amazing! Served with Sour Dough Bread, Baby Spinach, Smoked Salmon and drizzled with Dill Hollandaise to top it off, you certainly won’t be disappointed with the standard here in Monti.

Egg Salmon Florentine - Monti

No brunch would be completed without eggs. Choose from poached eggs to omelet, I’m sure they will make it to perfection!

Foie Gras on Toast - Monti

Foie Gras on Toast – Monti

Indulge yourself with the choice of Foie Gras on Toast. Try it and you will love it!

French Toast - Monti

French Toast – Monti

Be delighted with their French Toast! Served with Honey Cinnamon Mascarpone Cheese, Caramelized Banana and a scatter of Fresh Berries, it was decent. However, I would very much prefer a wider range of selections for the topping. Imagine having French Toast with Caramelized Banana and Chocolate Syrup. Yum! Nevertheless, it was delish.

Risotto Live Station - Monti

Risotto Live Station – Monti

Fancy for Risotto? Order their famous Truffle Risotto and be intrigued with a fancy live show. The Risotto Live Station will showcase on the finishing of your risotto in a parmesan cheese wheel in front of you and your guests.

Monti's Famous Tuffle Risotto

Monti’s Famous Truffle Risotto

The risotto was very rich and creamy. Due to parmesan cheese, it was a little pungent. Which, could be good or bad depending on your taste bud. I do like it, however.

Monti's Dessert Table

Monti’s Dessert Table

Check out Monti’s Dessert Table made in-house by their pastry chef after your hearty meal too as these desserts are also part of the buffet. I’m always excited when it comes to dessert, looking at this table makes me even more elevated.

Lemon Rosemary Tartlets

Lemon Rosemary Tartlets

Miniature Lemon Rosemary Tartlets looks indulging and refreshing! It was quite balanced with a twist of Rosemary in the crust. Yet, I personally still prefer it to be sourer.

Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake

Rich and decadent Chocolate Cake. Served with fresh berries, they were intensely moist.

Kenjo Salon Scalp Treatment

Scalp Treatment for Your Irritated Sensitive Scalp @ Kenjo Salon

Kenjo Salon

Since young, my scalp is very sensitive.  Like my mom, I have dandruff and my condition is really bad as compared to the norms. I have really huge and scary dry flakes that will fall off whenever I scratch my head.  It was really bad as sometimes my scalp would feel so irritated that it started to bleed. Sounds bad, right? I often do this to horrify my friends by showing them that snow is possible in Singapore. Hahahaha!

I often do this to horrify my friends by showing them that snow is possible in Singapore. Hahahaha!

One of the best way to help to my scalp is with a scalp treatment. I’m glad that Kenjo Salon offers such service and I would show you the result later. It is important to take care of your scalp, not just your hair as you could keep your hair from feeling greasy if your scalp is healthy. Your head would benefit the treatment as the treatment will deeply cleanse your scalp by removing deep skin cell and calm it down.

Davines haircare

Davines haircare

They will be using products from Davines for this treatment. Their Naturaltech series smelled so good and aromatic as it contains natural essential oil to soothe and calm me down. They are extremely lightweight to their scalp and hair but still extremely effective.

Step 1:

Step one: Massage Oil

Step one: Massage Oil

My hairstylist, William started the treatment by giving me a massage on my head with Davines Well-Being Massage Oil to get me to relax. The Well-Being series contain Phytoceuticals extract which has high antioxidant power. This series is meant to hydrate my scalp, keeping it moisturized and soft.

Step 1: Kenjo Salon Scalp Treatment

Step 2:

Step two: Infra Ray and Mist

Step two: Infra Ray and Mist

Next, he used a machine that emits infra ray and water mist on deep into my scalp to kill any bacteria and open my pores to get ready for cleansing. It was very relaxing. Afterward, William washed my hair with Davines Shampoo.

Davines Shampoo

Step two: Davines Shampoo

For the Shampoo, William hand-picked and told me that he will be using the Calming series instead. It is meant for calming down sensitive scalp. Just like the previous series, it smelled so good because it uses essential oil.

Step 3:

Step Three; Cut Hair

Step Three; Cut Hair

Before the final step of the treatment, William would need to trim my hair to get the hairstyle I wanted.

Step 4:

Step four: Lift In

Step four: Lift In

Finally, to end this whole treatment, he sprayed some lift in serum for my scalp. It is to make sure that my scalp remains calm and hydrate a longer period of time. I definitely feel that my scalp is less irritated now and at the very least, I don’t have large dead cell flakes and bleeding condition anymore! YAY!!

However, I personally feel that you should do this treatment periodically to keep your scalp healthy and happy. There is no such thing as one-time off thing, everything has to be maintained to be in excellent condition, so same thing to your scalp and hair. My condition has definitely improved, but I’m after a few more rounds of the treatment, it will be even better!

Fluffy Hotcake

Fluffy Hotcake

I’m amazed that they are able to produce such a lovely huge and Fuffy Hotcakes and am loving it! This cake serve up to 4 people, it is really huge! I was surprised that it wasn’t dense at all, I doubt you could get such a gigantic pancake elsewhere. Definitely very Instagrammable!

Wagyu Beef Burger

Wagyu Beef Burger

If you prefer something savory, you could try out their Wagyu Beef Burger with Japanese Seaweed French Fries. I really enjoyed the french fries and Japanese seaweed seasoning!

Host Big Breakfast Pan

Host Big Breakfast Pan

Want to have Big Breakfast instead? Go for their Host Big Breakfast Pan then! Their big breakfast consists of bacon, sausage, eggs, fresh tomato and herbs, mushrooms fricassee, brioche toast, and roasted potatoes. I love their roasted potatoes, even though it is so simple, it is so comforting. What a feast!

Nonya Crepe

Nonya Crepe

They also tried to recreate traditional taste with a modern twist with this Nonya Crepe. This dish reminds me of Nonya Kueh Dadar. Combining familiar taste like pandan and coconut cream with vanilla gelato, it is a good start. Yet, I’m not a big fan of the texture. Nevertheless, I am not a big fan of the traditional Nonya Kueh Dadar anyway.

Portico Host

Portico Host

Another worthy item to mention is their Granola. Delicious maple-sweetened Greek yogurt with crispy hearty oats, nuts, and a generous amount of fruit toppings, it is light and refreshing.

The Twenty Cavan @ Cavan Rd (Lavender MRT)

the.twenty.cavan

the.twenty.cavan

Located at Cavan Road, the.twenty.cavan is a new restaurant & bar that features Asian Fusion dishes that are certainly special and unique. The interior is based on a rustic theme and you will certainly feel like a hipster when dining in there. Yet, you will still get that exquisite feel.

Spicy Mango

Spicy Mango

Though the restaurant focuses on serving a wide variety of beers and wines, I wasn’t feeling good so I opted for their non-alcoholic drinks instead. Spicy Mango was recommended by one of their bartenders and I certainly pleased with that. Served with fresh mint leaves and mangoes, it was very refreshing and revitalizing. However, the mango cubes will a little on the tart side. Still, it wasn’t a problem with me as I enjoyed it.

Garden Green Salad

Garden Green Salad

We started it off with some appetizers. The Garden Green Salad consist of pan-fried prawns, cashew nuts, fresh berries and green chili dressing. I was definitely amazed by the unusual taste it gave me when I had my first bite.  I like the fact that they paired the hearty leaves with dragonfruit and goji berries as they marry well together.

Mushroom Skewers, Shiitake mushrooms, Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab with Curry Chicken Floss, Quad Seafood

Mushroom Skewers, Shiitake mushrooms, Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab with Curry Chicken Floss, Quad Seafood

You get a choice of three starters or four at a selected price. The platter I had have four different appetizers, Mushroom Skewers which comprises peppercorn-flavoured Portobello and Shiitake mushrooms, Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab with curry chicken floss and Quad Seafood which comprises a top shell, scallop, prawn, baby octopus tossed with mint hot bean sauce served with jellyfish.

Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab with curry chicken floss was one of my favorites among it. Though it may sound very freakish it was actually really good!

Red Rice Braised Pork Ribs

Red Rice Braised Pork Ribs

As I mentioned above just now that they feature Asian Fusion items, my first main course was Red Rice Braised Pork Ribs. If you know the Hakka chicken dish made with red glutinous rice wine lees, this is Chef Andrew’s pork ribs version. To be honest, I’m never a big fan of pork ribs and this taste more like the western version of char siew to me.

I’m a big lover of the Hakka chicken dish and char siew rice itself, but the Red Rice Braised Pork Ribs is just weird for me. That being said, I feel that there is some other mains worth coming for!

Canton Roast Chicken

Canton Roast Chicken

Good classic Roasted Chicken with black rice. You can’t find black rice in many places so I’m really surprised and contented that they chose that as the staple for this dish. Also commonly known as the Emperor’s Rice, it is extremely high in antioxidants, vitamins and very nutrition! Sure it’s going to be a hearty meal.

Chicken Galangal Rice Bowl

Chicken Galangal Rice Bowl

Chicken Galangal Rice Bowl is another very hearty main that serves with lots of assorted greens and black rice. This rice bowl was one of my favorite, simple clean eating, yet still so good!

Cavan Breakfast

Cavan Breakfast

Thick brioche with bacon, pork bratwurst, sauteed button mushrooms and scrambled eggs. The eggs were well made, it’s still gooey and soft. Overall, a very typical big breakfast.

Crispy Fish & Chips

Crispy Fish & Chips

I really liked their version of Fish and Chips as they have used Tilapia fish. The best part was that they had left the skin on, making it more flavorful. Their fish batter isn’t the same as the typical fish and chips batter, I’m not sure what type of flour and ingredients they have used for their fish batter but it was quite good and well-seasoned!

Pumpkin Yam Puree

Pumpkin Yam Puree

Pumpkin Yam Puree with Coconut Cream. This is a traditional dessert with a modern twist of the Teochew Orh Nee. It actually has aloe vera and pandan juice mixed into the pumpkin and yam puree to make it more special. Orh Nee lovers should definitely give it a try!

Lemon Pudding with Mixed Berries

Lemon Pudding with Mixed Berries

I always like to have a refreshing dessert to clean my palate after a delightful feast. Paired with pureed mixed berries, the pudding was lightful tart! It almost felt like I was having some really good creamy yogurt! This Lemon Pudding with Mixed Berries is the way to go.

To sum up, I think they really put in the effort to make something special and extraordinary. If you are around the area, why not pop by to check this place out? They have a great rustic ambiance that will make you feel like you are in a cozy back alley.

If you have the Enertainer 2017, do make sure to use the vouchers as they are one of the participating restaurants!

Perm with Olaplex Treatment @ Kenjo Salon

I have been perming so often that I am starting to worry about my hair condition. To maintain my permed hairstyle, I would have to perm almost every other month! That would be almost 6x per year and it’s insane! There was a period of time my hair was so frizzy that it did not look good at all even after a new perm session. I realized that taking care of my hair and making sure that it is in good condition is also very important as it is one of the keys to having nice hair.

Thanks to my new hair sponsor, I’ll be perming my hair alongside with Olaplex Treatment at Kenjo Salon. Many people have been raving about Olaplex treatment! Olaplex is a new reconstructive treatment developed by top scientists in Santa Barbara that enhance the internal structure of the hair and prevents damage that occurs during chemical services like perming or coloring. I’ll talk more about it later in this post blog.

Conveniently located in Plaza Singapura, Kenjo Salon is a Korean Salon with a combination of local and Korean stylists. They are very professional and will strive to provide their customers the ultimate salon experience.

When I got into the salon, I was greeted by one of the receptionist and was escorted to a table to wait for my hair stylist. I love the fact that they have many choices of beverage to choose from! As usual, I would need my coffee to kick start that day.

Here’s a picture of my hairstyle before I start. I looked damn unkempt!

My hair stylist, William.

I consulted William with the hairstyle I want in mind and he advised me with the necessary procedures I would need to do to achieve the best look. To protect my hair, he advised me to do my perm with Olaplex treatment. As I mentioned above, I heard great reviews about Olaplex and was glad that I could try it out myself here in Kenjo Salon. I then start my procedure with a hair wash followed by William cutting my hair effortlessly.

Olaplex

Olaplex

Olaplex is a new reconstructive treatment developed by top scientists in Santa Barbara that enhance the internal structure of the hair and prevents damage that occurs during chemical services like perming or coloring. It is a bond multiplier which is unlike any other products on the market right now. This actually connects any broken disulfide bonds in the hair, restoring the original strength and structure of the hair. Olaplex is not like a conditioner as it does not coat the hair in silicone to make it ‘smooth’ temporary.

Definitely great a treatment you should totally try it if you are,

  • Coloring your hair – For a more lasting vibrant hair color
  • Bleaching – To protect and eliminates hair breakage
  • Rebonding – Maintain strength & giving structure to the hair
  • Hot/Cold Perm – Improves elasticity with strong and voluminous curl

Since perming my hair will break numerous bonds in the hair, the integrity of my hair will be compromised. So an Olaplex treatment is highly recommended to repair the damaged caused by perm.

After my wash and cut, William applied a lotion-based Korean perming chemical to get it started. I was astonished that the chemical that they used was a lotion type and not those conventional watery perming chemicals you would get in other salons. I would totally prefer the lotion to the typical perming chemical as it was not messy at all and I do not need to worry about the chemical getting onto my face and into my eyes.

So excited for the final result later!

My Olaplex treatment was done together with my perm. The Olaplex treatment was fairly simple. It was drizzled on my hair at the end after applying neutralizing chemical of the perm. Kenjo Salon had incorporated Olaplex treatment together with the perm. The result of doing this was impressive as my hair retained more of its elasticity and shine.

Look at the shine and the suppleness of my hair!

The end result! My hairstylist, William told me that I also could style my hair differently if I want to for a formal event. Yet, I still very much prefer how my hair turned out when its down for a more casual look.

Thanks William for styling me up! It was awesome!

A week after my perm and treatment with Kenjo Salon. I love how my hair turned out. It looks gorgeous! More pictures of my Tiong Bahru shots will be out soon, so stay tuned!

However, I was really disappointed with their ice cream. Maybe, it was only for that day but totally mine was certainly disapproving icy. Yet, the place was very quiet and relaxing. A great place to chill out after a long busy day shopping in Myeongdong.

Nevertheless, if you are dropping by, make sure to get some of their tea products! They have really special tea leaves that you can’t find anywhere else.

A rare shot with the ever so active Raccoon at Blind Alley

Blind Alley Cafe, as its name suggest, I couldn’t find or take notice the cafe even after walking past for quite a few times! Situated along the street of Cheongpadong just before Sookmyung Women’s University, this is one unique cafe I’m certainly sure you can’t find something similar in Singapore!

WARNING: THIS ANIMAL-THEMED CAFE HAS TWO WILD RACCOONS INSIDE!

Yeap, it is a raccoon cafe! These raccoons are not kept in their cages most of the time. Hence, do expect them to crawl all over you when dining there. They do offer some refreshing smoothies, aromatic cafe latte, and some desserts. The best part is that the food was reasonably priced! Unlike some other animal-themed cafe whereby,  the price of a cup of Orange Juice can be exorbitant!

Portico Prime @ Dempsey Hills – Chic & Modern European Restaurant

Portico Prime

Portico Prime

Situated in Dempsey Hills, Portico Prime offers a Chic & Modern European Restaurant. The interior is simple and industry-styled, yet refined and elegant. It will sure be a lavished experience here.

Roma Tomato Salad

Roma Tomato Salad

To get things started, I got to try out a few appetizers.

Roma Tomato Salad has two different types of Jamon (also known as Ham in Spanish), it was certainly unusual and I’m not used to the taste. The salad was scattered with Quinoa and Hijiki Seaweed and a finishing of Rock Melon Dressing. Still, I love how the tomatoes go well with the Quinoa and the dressing together.

Hokkaido Scallop

Hokkaido Scallop

Pan-seared Hokkaido Scallop with Brown Anchovy Mayo and Crispy Bacon, the scallop was still juicy on the inside and it was well browned. You know it is going to be good!

Pan-seared Foie Gras

Pan-seared Foie Gras

Pan-seared Foie Gras, this got to be one of my favorites! Accompanied with Beetroot Puree, Toasted Bread and a fresh mixture of berries, it was indeed dead delicious! The Foie Gras was silky and has a melt in your mouth feel. It was paired really well with the crisp toasted bread and refreshing fruits.

Live Scotland Blue-lipped Mussels

Live Scotland Blue-lipped Mussels

Live Scotland Blue-lipped Mussels. Seasoned with Garlic Confit, White Wine, and Italian Parsley, it was so simple yet so comforting. It has a wonderful aroma, I can really smell the freshness of the ocean as if I was really there. Really good!

Truffle Angel Hair Pasta

Truffle Angel Hair Pasta

Next, some of the main courses of which, I really enjoyed.

Truffle Angel Hair Pasta. Intense and pungent aroma of the truffles, matched with beautiful black Avruga-caviar, crispy Kawa Ebit Shrimps and Ito Togarashi, it will sure to make you render speechless. If I would visit again, I will sure order this as my main course again!

Roasted Chicken Leg

Roasted Chicken Leg

Roasted Chicken Leg with Chili Navy Beans Sauce. The sauce was a little on the salty side if you try it as it. Yet, it marries up perfectly when consumed with the roasted chicken. The chicken was tender and succulent. If you are not sure what you are looking for this classic dish with a slight twist should be alright to try out.

Baked Cod Fish

Baked Cod Fish

Baked Cod Fish with Yuzu-flavored foam and crushed Matcha Hazelnuts. This dish was totally bizarre! Not only that the flavors combination was unusual, the dish was presented in a very exotic way. I was astonished to get to try out some flavored foam. However, all the flavors were very mild and you have to slowly savor it to appreciate. I personally feel that even though the dish was outstanding and out of the box, I don’t like the bubbly feel of the foam in my mouth.

Creme Brulee

Creme Brulee

Creme Brulee was creamy and well caramelized. I was amused that they added toasted bread on top of the Creme Brulee, certainly something different and some would sure to enjoy it with the creamy sweet custard.

Homemade Sorbet

Homemade Sorbet

Homemade Sorbet garnished with fresh fruits and granola toppings, it was very refreshing and light. Great to have it after a hearty meal. The flavors I got to try out were Green Apple, Lychee, and Passion Fruit. I really enjoyed all of them as they were not too sweet but sweet enough for me. My liking was the Green Apple, but I told by my other friends that it tasted like baby food (Apple Sauce).

Deconstructed Black Forest

Deconstructed Black Forest

Rich and decadent, Deconstructed Black Forest surely brings me back to the woods in the wonderland! The Chocolate Mousse pairs really well with the creamy cold Gelato.

To sum up, the food was delightful. I can see that the chefs here put in the effort to recreate their dishes for a more special meal for their customers. Since the restaurant is situated in Dempsey Hills, it is quite peaceful and quiet. Additionally, with the beautiful chic interior and wonderful ambiance at night, I would totally come here again in future for a special occasion!

Cha Thai @ Telok Ayer

Pad Thai Noodle

Pad Thai Noodle

Stunning and jaw-dropping Pad Thai Noodle from Cha Thai. Situated in the street of Telok Ayer, this Thai Food restaurant is worth taking a look.

I love their Pad Thai Noodle. Initially, I thought that Pad Thai Noodle should have a strong wok smell. The smell and aroma can be produced with very high heat and a good well-seasoned cast iron wok.  Yet, I was told that original Pad Thai Noodle should not have it.

How do I know? The original creator of Pad Thai Noodle is actually by Chai Thai owner’s ancestor. She is the 5th generation of the family! So, an authentic Pad Thai Noodle should have a sweet fragrance, accompanied by sourish unripened mango and a squeeze of zesty lime.

Drinks

Drinks

Of course, when you are in Thai Resturant, you expect a wide range of selection of Thai drinks, right? You will be spoiled by what they can offer you. I really liked their Thai Green Tea, it was strong and creamy!

Prawn Cakes

Prawn Cakes

Crispy Prawn Cakes to be paired with rice. It was juicy and delightful. But, I do feel that they can be heavier on their seasoning. Yet, I still enjoyed much, especially with the sweet plum sauce!

Papaya Salad

Papaya Salad

The usual Thai Papaya Salad. I know you can’t see, but it was served with Salted Duck Eggs. I don’t recall having Papaya Salad with salted eggs, so this was unique for me! The salad dressing was zingy and refreshing, while the salted eggs give extra depth of flavor to this dish. Definitely should try if you are a sucker for Papaya Salad!

Tom Yum Soup

Tom Yum Soup

Spicy Tom Yum Soup with Noodles and Seafood. Yum! It was so spicy, even I was taken aback. However, the soup was dead additive! I simply just loved it! Strong flavor and very spicy, must try!

Cha Thai

Cha Thai

I think it is worth trying out if you are around the area. Maybe a casual weekday dinner after work with a small group of friends would be great! I love spicy food and this is a place I would really consider when I’m feelin’ for it!

Make sure to try out their Toasted Bread with Milk Tea/Kaya Sauce too! I heard it was quite popular there.
